There is no such thing as normal or perfect. Our world is messy, unpredictable, and complicated. Sometimes we are the one that complicates life, and other times we are simply caught up in the chaos. All we can do is our best with the skills, abilities, and support that we possess, AND we can do better by developing and learning new ways to manage. It is that belief, that we are doing our best, that I try to lead from with my interactions with others.

WHAT I’M LIKE AS A THERAPIST
As a therapist, and holding that belief that we are doing the best we can, I want to meet you where you are at. I want to provide a safe space of non-judgment that allows you to be vulnerable and do the hard work of improving yourself. I integrate DBT, CBT, and developmental and relational skills from a codependency model. Building skills to regulate our emotions, challenge our thoughts, and be able to step back from any situation in order to respond from a healthy and functioning place is at the core to improving ourselves. I place a high value on learning skills and practicing them. I also utilize EMDR, Flash technique, and Post Induction Therapy to help those that have endured trauma or disturbing events.

AREAS OF EXPERTISE:
- First responders: I am culturally competent to work with first responders whether it’s developing resiliency, processing trauma or critical incidents, or managing the day to day stress of the job and its impact within the family. Please feel free to reach out to me to know more about my background in this field.
- Dual diagnosis: Substance use often goes hand in hand with other mental health issues that we can explore. I treat people using a harm reduction stance where you set your own goals for your recovery, and my place is to support those goals. I want to remove the stigma and negativity around use, which reduces shame and blame that keeps us from moving forward.
- PTSD/Trauma: Unprocessed trauma wreaks havoc on the body and the mind. When left untreated, trauma can impact our day to day lives and our relationships. I am an EMDR trained therapist through EMDRIA, and use other modalities to take the heat out of past trauma, so you can get your life back.
- Developmental and Relational Trauma: I am trained in Healing Our Core Issues Institute in the developmental and relational trauma model that integrates body-based methodologies, mindfulness, attachment, core issues work, and neuroscience. This framework helps look at how our family and the adults in our lives modeled certain behaviors and beliefs that impact our abilities to hold healthy, functioning relationships as adults today.
Personal interests: I love being outdoors and soaking up the sun. We recently moved from the midwest, and have been enjoying the mountains and ocean which I find feed my soul. I’m a lover of learning (formerly a teacher and school counselor), and have an insatiable appetite for books and information. I love to travel, and have hopes to one day retire to Scotland (I’m a dual citizen with the UK and US).
