Veterans and first responders often carry experiences their loved ones and others don’t fully comprehend or understand. High-pressure workplaces, vicarious trauma, loss, vigilance, moral injury, and the need to stay composed in intense situations leaves a lasting impact. The most highly capable, resilient people can still experience the effects over time with hypervigilance, emotional numbness, sleep problems, irritability, anxiety, relationship strain, or a sense they are no longer fully themselves.
At Selah Counseling & Wellness, we provide therapy for veterans and first responders with respect for the demands of their roles and the complexity of what they navigate. We’ve hired clinicians with lived experience and who have served with these populations, and all our clinicians provide trauma informed care. Some veterans and first responders seek therapy because trauma symptoms have become too intrusive to manage and are affecting their daily life. Others feel disconnected from family, constantly on edge, or unable to turn off the compartmentalization response that helped them function previously. Some adjust to civilian life, retirement, or changes in role and identity. Others have never had the chance to process what they carry.
Therapy offers a place where strength and struggle both coexist. You do not have to minimize what you have experienced to deserve support.
Trauma, PTSD symptoms, intrusive memories, or paranoia
Anger, reactivity, irritability, or difficulty regulating emotions
Depression, suicidal ideation, emotional numbness or disconnection
Maladaptive coping including problem substance use, impulsivity, etc.
Relationship conflict or risk of divorce, or difficulty being fully present at home
Overwhelming anxiety, panic attacks, hypervigilance or feeling constantly on edge
Therapy does not erase what you have lived through. It helps you carry it differently and with more support.
Many veterans and first responders maintain high levels of functioning despite significant emotional strain. Therapy provides a supportive environment to reduce hypervigilance, process difficult experiences, and reconnect with parts of yourself that may have been overshadowed by chronic stress, trauma, or prolonged responsibility.
Support is not a sign you could not handle it. It is a way of taking it seriously that handling it has a cost.
Whether dealing with trauma, burn-out, anxiety, relationship strain, sleep problems, or a difficult transition, therapy can help. Selah Counseling & Wellness offers therapy for veterans and first responders with care that is respectful, trauma-informed, and deeply supportive. Reach out to learn more or schedule an appointment.
We approach this work with respect, steadiness, and an awareness that trust matters deeply. Many veterans and first responders are used to handling things internally, and therapy can feel unfamiliar or exposing at first. We do not rush that. We create a space where honesty is possible without pressure to perform or explain everything all at once.
Depending on your needs, therapy may include trauma focused therapies like EMDR, Sensorimotor Therapy for nervous system support, Internal Family Systems (IFS) grief work, CBT, or help navigating transition and identity questions. We also understand that symptoms often affect the whole system: work, school, marriage or partnerships, parenting, sleep, health, and day-to-day functioning.
Our goal is to offer care that is practical, grounded, and genuinely respectful of what these populations carry.
You do not have to carry the weight of service alone. Therapy can help you process what you have experienced, strengthen relationships, and move toward greater steadiness and connection.
Selah Counseling & Wellness offers therapy for veterans and first responders seeking support with trauma, stress, grief, relationships, and life transitions. We invite you to connect with us to find the therapist who feels like the right fit.
