Eric Given, MA

Life is a journey in which each decision we have made has left a lasting impact.  As a person who is coming to therapy you have taken a courageous step to focus on your mental health.  In therapy you will be looking at these past, current and future decisions.  As a counselor I will be a guide and a mirror to help build a nonjudgmental, empathetic environment.  We will do this for you to be comfortable in exploring this journey, in which to live a life worth living.

Eric works with children (4+), teens, adults and families.

What I'm Like as a Therapist

My goal in every therapy session is to be as clear of a mirror as possible.  I do this with reflections and active listening, and I respect the choices that my client has made.  I aim to provide an environment that is relaxed and conducive to experiencing any feelings that come up.

Personal Interests

I enjoy being as active as possible, that includes weightlifting, martial arts, yoga, and meditation.  I spend as much time as I can with my three children and spouse.  With that time, I watch Survivor, WWE, and various anime.

“It's time for you to look inward and start asking yourself the big questions. Who are you? And what do you want?”

AREAS OF EXPERTISE

Trauma Healing

Trauma is defined as an experience that overwhelms our normal coping strategies.  With this in mind we work together to help improve coping strategies and integrate the experience into a working part of your story.

Children & Tweens

Children learn best by playing and will often express themselves in abstract terms.  I strive to make therapy a fun experience in which the child feels comfortable enough to be themselves, and lean skills to help move forward.

Mood/Emotional Regulation

Feelings are our way that our bodies speak to us.  They can be overwhelming and misleading.  The use of mindfulness, slowing down and DBT can help navigate your feelings.
